Tipperary
Lost history restored by games!
Tipperary was an area of Dundee, Scotland lost to time. Sometimes called “Little Tipperary“, t he collection of approximately 20 houses between Marshall Street and Athol street was destroyed over the years due to developers and the tightly knit community and history was lost. However, using old pictures and accounts the area has been faithfully restored and brought to life.
Be placed in the shoes of Robert Gallacher in Tipperary, a 10 year old boy sent to Lochee from his home in Clydebank. Staying with his great Aunt’s family in 1941, it’s a normal sized family for the time and place – maybe 7 people of various ages inhabiting the small house, it was cramped. His life has been uprooted and he is a stranger to the area. He will be slowly discovering the are and what his life will be like there.
Installation
The game has a permanent installation at the Lochee Library in Dundee where you can experience Tipperary as it was before it was destroyed. The installation has been incredibly well received and featured across local news and on STV.
Games and Culture
We loved working on this game and its a perfect example of how games can be used for bringing history and culture to life. Actually exploring and immersing yourself in the world allows you to learn and understand far more about a subject, area or time through games than any other media. We believe that this approach is suitable for a wide variety of cases and are always happy to talk through any ideas so please feel free to reach out!
Where can I play this?
On top of the in person installation the game may also be played on android phones although the experience is primarily meant to be played at the installation.
