Whale Song Park
Bringing people together
Right in the centre of Dundee beside the V&A museum is the brand new Whale Song Park. In the middle of the park underneath the incredible 35 metre long whale sculpture made by award-winning artist Lee Simmons is an arcade cabinet. This four player cabinet was built to bring people together in the centre of the park. The design encourages players to jump in and play with a passing stranger and see if you can rack up a new highscore!
Minigames
Working with Abertay University on the project with the incredible lecturer Dr Lynn Love the design of the game was built around the idea of jump in and out play. To achieve this we designed 6 different minigames which revolve around collaborating and playing with 4 players to increase your score together and play for longer. The better you do the longer you can play! Just like retro arcade games.
Unique Hardware
The 2 metre tall monolith in Whale Song Park has 4 separate podiums for each player complete with a roller ball, 2 buttons and a speaker each. Each game was designed with the hardware in mind using spatial audio and gameplay that wraps around multiple screens requiring players to communicate and play together for maximum fun. Helping bring strangers together and get people outside and active.
Where can I play this?
Head down to Whale Song Park to play! Unfortunately, the Dundee City Council maintain the park and cabinet and so we cannot guarantee the game is currently online as any damage to the hardware cannot be fixed by us and we would direct any hardware related issues here.
